Lyme Disease Treatment
If you have taken the time to read our main page you will now be aware of the symptoms of lyme disease and put yourself in a good position to be able to make a lyme disease diagnosis. What is important to know now if you believe that you have the infection is what is the lyme disease treatment.
However it can be very hard to make a lyme disease diagnosis if neither the victim or the doctor, if they seek medical advice, know that there has been exposure to infected ticks. Not only is it possible to be bitten by a tick and not notice because of how small they are but people may not actually live in areas where the lyme disease infected ticks make their habitat. They may have been exposed for just a brief time, a trip to a friends or a holiday. With this being the case it may be that the victim may not even think to search specifically for lyme disease treatment.
As we mentioned on the main page the lyme disease rash might become visible not long after the victim is bitten. Even if a blood test is done, lyme disease still may not show up straight away.
The idea of the blood test is to find antibodies that the body will produce as a reaction to the infection caused by the Borrelia burgdorferi parasite. These antibodies will not be produced in amounts that are detectable for many weeks after the infection has taken place. In most cases a positive blood test will come about between 3 to 6 weeks following infection. As the rash is rather prominent and unique lyme disease diagnosis can be made without the need for a blood test and if it is already known that the victim has been exposed to ticks then this makes it all the more straight forward.
Lyme disease treatment normally consists of a 2 week period of taking amoxicillin or doxycycline. These treatments will shorten the length of time that the lyme disease rash is present and also cure the infection in the body
If the victim does not receive a lime disease diagnosis and as a result remains untreated then the other infection can cause the other symptoms and complications such as arthritis and neurological issues as explained on the main page. These will occur several week of even months after the bite and the infection begins. At this stage of the infection if a blood test is actually taken the it will show as positive and then lyme disease treatment can belatedly begin. However without realising that there has been exposure to ticks may prevent the victim or the doctor they see having a blood test done because they will likely be looking to diagnose something completely different.
Lyme disease treatment for the complications such as arthritis in larger joints which can occur include courses of antibiotics which can be via injections and required for several weeks.
The longer it is that time goes by and the complications develop and worsen, without actually getting a lyme disease diagnosis it ultimately means that the treatment required will need to be in place longer before a full recovery is made.
